Prof. Zelig Eshhar
Prof. Zelig Esshar is the Director of the Immunology lab, Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and Weizmann Institute of Science and Chairman of Immunology Research at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
Prof. Zelig Eshhar earned his BSc and MSc degrees in Biology at the Hebrew University and PhD at the Weizmann Institute of Science, with post-doctoral research at Harvard Medical School.
Prof. Zelig Eshhar’s work has been the basis of the development of a cancer immunotherapy, involving genetic modifications of T lymphocytes extracted from a cancer patient to produce chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-Cells
Eshhar’s team was the first to employ the CAR -T cells to specifically fight cancer.
Prof Eshhar is the recipient of numerous awards, among them Israel Prize in Life Sciences (2015), the Novartis Prize for Clinical Immunology (2016) and the EMET Prize in Life Sciences (2017).
Prof Eshhar has published more than 200 peer reviewed scientific papers in top scientific Journals.
